The Zero-Download Guest Journey: TV, QR, Web or Mobile App?
Inn. TRENDS
📋 Quick Summary

Use the TV for visible in-room discovery, QR web for private and transactional continuation, staff for judgement and a native app only where repeat value makes installation worthwhile.

The strongest hotel journey is not app-first or television-first. It assigns each task to the channel with the least friction. Shared discovery works well on the room screen. Private typing and payments belong on the guest's own device. Loyalty and digital key can justify a native app for repeat guests.

💡
TL;DR. Use the TV for visible in-room discovery, QR web for private and transactional continuation, staff for judgement and a native app only where repeat value makes installation worthwhile.

The television should expose the available experience within seconds. A QR code can preserve room context and language while moving typing to the phone browser. Do not require an account for public hotel information.

Avoid duplicate systems

The TV, mobile web and app should use the same property facts, service catalogue and task routing. Maintaining three independent menus guarantees contradictions. A central content model lets each channel adapt the presentation without duplicating the truth.

Measure completion, not downloads

App downloads are not a useful success metric if guests still call reception. Measure service discovery, request completion, response time, abandoned flows and repeated questions. Compare by property type and stay length.

Design for the guest who declines

Every digital journey needs a non-digital path. A guest without a smartphone, with accessibility needs or simply preferring a person should still receive service. Digital self-service creates capacity; it does not remove the duty to provide hospitality.

COTT.TV channel design

COTT.TV presents hotel information, services, live TV and AI concierge on the room screen, with QR continuation in a browser and no mandatory download. Hotels can add native or third-party applications where they create genuine value rather than making installation the entrance fee for basic information.
